Q: DO I REALLY NEED TO REPLACE MY BRAKE FLUID?
A:Yes you do! Brake fluid is a hygroscopic fluid, meaning that it readily absorbs and retains moisture. Moisture in brake fluid causes two problems. The first is internal corrosion which can lead to expensive and unnecessary repairs. Second, and most important, it lowers the boiling point of the fluid; as little as 3% of moisture contamination can lower the boiling point by 25%.
Aggressive or repetitive braking, intentional or not, generates enormous heat, that heat now can boil and vaporize the fluid causing a spongy pedal or in some cases a total loss of pedal.
Honda and Acura recommend brake fluid replacement every 3 years regardless of mileage. Customers who have commutes with incidents of high speed braking and/or stop and go traffic have benefited from replacing their brake fluid every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Q: I CAN’T FIND ANY INFORMATION ON IF, OR WHEN, MY POWER STEERING FLUID SHOULD BE CHANGED?
A:Honda and Acura do not have a recommended schedule for power steering fluid replacement.
Here at Compass Auto, we know that no fluid lasts forever. Our vehicles are now bigger and have better handling, the power steering systems work harder than ever before. We recommend power steering fluid replacement every 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Q: WHY DO YOU ONLY OFFER FULL SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES?
A: Conventional oil is no longer the standard. Most new vehicles require synthetic blend oil and it will only be a matter of time before full synthetic will be the standard for most models.
With the introduction of the service minder system we have seen extended oil change intervals. Using full synthetic oil is the ultimate protection your engine can have. Synthetic oil does not evaporate as quickly, does not break down at high temperatures and has improved friction reduction. Simply put, it’s just better. Usually better means more expensive, here at Compass Auto we have worked with local suppliers to provide full synthetic oil at a reasonable price.
